María Villalba Orero

María graduated in 2004 from the Complutense University in Madrid, Spain. Right after this she completed a 3-year rotating internship at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital from the same institution. María’s focus, both in clinical and research settings, has always been cardiology and anaesthesiology. In 2008, she started her own private practice as a referral in equine cardiology and anaesthesia offering her services all over Spain. In 2014, she completed a PhD in equine anaesthesia and, since 2010 she works at the National Center for Cardiovascular Research unravelling molecular mechanisms involved in heart failure. Apart from that, she is also the scientific advisor for translational projects requiring cardiac ultrasonography in the animals enrolled in research projects. Currently and since 2021, she was incorporated as an assistant professor in the Large Animal Medicine Department of the Veterinary School of the Complutense University of Madrid. Amongst other duties, she is the responsible of the equine cardiology service.
